CHOCOLATE LIQUEUR COCKTAILS, PART 3: Dark Alexander & Coco’s Hot Cocoa
DARK ALEXANDER
Forget what you think about creamy cocktails - this Dark Alexander shows what happens when bourbon decides to dress up for the evening and get all fancy. Each sip starts with chocolate and cream but finishes with bourbon’s characteristic warmth and depth. Perfect for a cozy evening cuddled up next to some wood you recently set on fire.
Ingredients
1 ½ oz. Unsinkable Bourbon
1 oz. Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur
1 oz. heavy cream (or half-and-half if you’re watching your waistline especially diligently)
Freshly grated nutmeg for garnish
Method
Add all ingredients (except the nutmeg, silly!) to a cocktail shaker.
Fill with ice and shake with a sense of guarded fury until well-chilled (at least 20 seconds to adequately aerate the dairy).
Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
Garnish with a light dusting of freshly grated nutmeg. Or maybe a little grated dark chocolate?
COCO’S HOT COCOA
This one is less of a “cocktail” and more of “a mug and a glug.” Named after one of Sausalito Liquor Company’s employees – a notoriously uncomplex gentleman whose heart is almost surely bigger than his head – this wintery drink is really rather difficult to screw up. Next time you’re cozied up by the roaring fire with a mug of hot chocolate, simply pop a sensible glug of Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur into said mug and the deed is done.
Ingredients
1 mug of your favorite hot cocoa or hot chocolate or whatever you call that steaming hot mug of seasonally appropriate goodness that we often top with marshmallows
1 glug* Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur
Method
Sit by roaring fire in pajamas.
Pour a glug* of Unsinkable Chocolate Liqueur into your pre-existing mug of hot chocolate.
That’s literally it.
*One person’s glug might be different than another’s person’s glug, no? Think of it as somewhere between a “splash” and a “heavy hand.”
